“For all we know, we may never meet again.
Before you go, make this moment sweet again.

We won’t say goodnight until the last minute.
I hold out my hands, and my heart will be in it.

For all we know, this may only be a dream.
We come and go like a ripple in a stream.

So, love me tonight. Tomorrow was made for sun.
Tomorrow may never come, for all we know.”

From the song “For All We Know” – lyrics by Sam M. Lewis

This song seems sweet and innocent. When I hear it, I’m reminded of deeper meanings; of impermanence, of the passage of time, and of the realization that nothing lasts forever. All the more reason to live for today, and to live well. Oh, no, not that we don’t consider tomorrow – just that we don’t keep putting our lives on hold for tomorrow.

All the more reason to stay awake, stay alive, and stay loving. As we do that in each moment, each one will be sweet, and tomorrow actually will never come. Because when we arrive at tomorrow, it will be our present. And we can make those moments sweet again, by living with our hands and hearts outstretched.
