the ultimate soulmate

– Buddha

You can explore the universe looking for somebody who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and you will not find that person anywhere. You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.

The greatest driver of success beneath Hollywood, Disney, eHarmony, diets, cosmetics, and cosmetic surgeons is the mistaken impression that somewhere, somehow, there is a soulmate out there that will fix us and love us.

It’s a great story that continues to be told, despite so much evidence to the contrary.

Fortunately, there are many very happy couples who realize that the bedrock of their happiness is in each partner’s own love and acceptance of themselves. Go ahead, take a look at the people you see who are happy in relationship. Notice that they start first with themselves, which then opens them up for the other, for the beloved.

My primary relationship is with myself–all others are mirrors of it. As I learn to love myself, I automatically receive the love and appreciation that I desire from others. If I am committed to myself and to living my truth, I will attract others with equal commitment. My willingness to be intimate with my own deep feelings creates the space for intimacy with another. As I learn to love myself, I receive the love I desire from others.Shakti Gawain
