Love Meditation from Plum Village

May I be peaceful, happy and light in body and spirit.
May I be safe and free from injury.
May I be free from anger, afflictions, fear and anxiety.
May I learn to look at myself with eyes of understanding and love.
May I be able to recognize and touch the seeds of joy and happiness in myself.
May I learn to identify and see the sources of anger, craving and delusion in myself.
May I know how to nourish the seeds of joy in myself every day.
May I be able to live fresh, solid and free.
May I be free from attachment and aversion, but not indifferent.

Plum Village is a Buddhist meditation center in the Dordogne, in southern France. It was founded by Vietnamese monk Thích Nhất Hạnh, and his colleague Bhikkhuni Chân Không, in 1982.

This is a very kind meditation. It doesn’t focus on finding anyone to blame for the things that happen, but simply allows that things do happen – sadness and happiness, joy and craving.

  1. Yes, Richard, you’ve said it well. The stronger anyone holds on to things that change, the more pain may ensue.
Kindness isn’t just for others, but also for our selves that may not always be graceful when change inevitably happens.
I had thought the phrase “Resistance is futile” was a Buddhist slogan, but I’ve since been told it has been featured on Star Trek.
