My Update

How I’m feeling now

I’m feeling relieved and joyful.

Last month, I had my mishap. All your prayers and wishes have put me back on the road to wellness.

A few weeks ago, my 85-year-old Dad took a spill and went to the hospital with a broken leg. Two of my sisters are with him now, as is my Mom. He had surgery today and the surgeon came out with two thumbs up! He’ll be in recovery and therapy for 2-3 weeks.

We really haven’t been a medical drama family so this is something. We’re dealing with it, though.

So, please point those loving thoughts and prayers towards my Dad and sister!

What happened

My Dad was in his home office and took a spill, falling to the floor with a thud. Mom came in and managed to get him up and into his chair. When they decided to call 911, it took 5 paramedics to get Dad down the stairs. Dad said he felt every step and bump.

Here’s what happened to me: I was riding the waves and did a face plant (aka “pile driver), breaking two bones in my neck and one in my back. The ER doctor says I’m “stable” – about time?? ;-)

Requests

I’ve received a generous, loving outpouring of support. I have everything I need. Thank you!  To help make things even smoother, here are some things that could help.

Some theories

I’ve heard a couple suggestions about why this might have happened.

  • The shirt I had on earlier that day with the surfing skeleton might have given the ocean the desire to show me who’s boss.
  • The water would have gotten colder and colder and since I’m of Norwegian descent I probably wouldn’t have known when to stop for the season so this was like a wake-up call.
  • Since I recently shaved off my moustache, maybe it threw off my aerodynamics.
  • The night before I was in a Halloween costume – Superman. Some have suggested I had forgotten that it was just a costume, or maybe I came across some ocean kryptonite.

Anyone else have theories?

Back to the scene

Nov 7th – I took a little visit to where it happened. I was happy to be standing and feeling the warm air. Don’t worry, I didn’t go take a little dip!

  4. Dear Dan,

WOW….Where did this happen? Are in San Diego now? You are very lucky considering what could have happened…take one moment at a time…let as many people help you as possible…do you need a food rotation? Can you drive? Let us all know how we can rally together to help you with anything…you are such a wonderful and beautiful soul and I know you will use this to grow deeper than you already are just like I did….there will be some deep fear and some incredible joys…as Pema says…”Lean into whatever comes …lean into the fear and the joy as it comes”
    Love to you …Summer

  5. Yes, I am lucky and blessed. I have many angels watching out for me.
This happened at Moonlight and I’m home.
At the moment, I’m not driving. Once I get an appointment with a specialist, I may need a ride.
I’m set with food. As a matter of fact, I had just taken a raw food workshop with amazing Michelle Mann just a few hours before it happened. That’s great because with this enormous collar/brace they have me in, it’s hard to chew. So, my juicer and blender are working overtime. I’m probably going to be healthier than ever. I’m already off coffee.
Thanks for the warm words and loving energy.

  6. Dan,

All those women that were at the party on Friday are going to be wondering now about that “man of steel” story you kept telling.

Seriously, though, I’m really close by, so please call me if you need a ride. I can usually come over pretty quickly.

    Dave P.
